Specialty Pregnancy Assistance – West Michigan Community Mental Health
Specialty Pregnancy Assistance (SPA) is a wraparound service created to improve outcomes for families who are impacted by neonatal abstinence syndrome: a pattern of withdrawal symptoms observed in infants who are prenatally exposed to a variety of substances. This collaborative program works to eliminate as many potential barriers as possible in order to promote a woman’s chances for successful recovery, healthy pregnancy and infant wellness. Highly trained staff work in partnership with women to meet their individual needs, coordinating resources between multiple agencies to ensure women receive the services they need. Support for women through pregnancy, delivery and hospital discharge -Advocacy for mother and child -Recovery coach and therapy referrals -Education -Assistance navigating & coordinating: -Pregnancy/parenting resources -System providers -Prenatal care -Behavioral health services -Hospital arrangements -Child welfare
